Selah’s Story

Selah was born with Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia, which is a birth defect that occurs when the diaphragm doesn’t close properly during development. She required immediate surgery after her birth at MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital. During her recovery, her parents and sister found a “Home-away-from-home” at RMHC Charleston for 52 nights.

“There are a lot of families that have circumstances put on them that they’re not prepared for and RMHC Charleston definitely alleviated some of those pressures and uncertainties.” – Tyler, Selah’s Father.

Proximity played a key role in helping Selah’s family feel a sense of normalcy during such a challenging time. Having the House be within walking distance of the hospital allows for families to be close to their children just like Selah
