13 Jan Paisley’s Story

Paisley is a happy and lively ten-year-old girl seemingly carefree with a huge, bright personality. Unless you see her “zipper scar,” you likely will have no idea she’s battling a critical heart defect. Paisley was born in 2014 with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS), meaning she only has half a heart and required three open heart surgeries over the course of a year. While being treated at MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital, her parents found a haven at RMHC Charleston for 58 nights.
“Knowing that while we’re not able to stay in our own home, we have a safe place where people know our names, love my baby, and make us feel warm and cared for is priceless.” – Kim, Paisley’s Mother
Paisley still needs the occasional treatment that requires her family to travel 4 hours from their home to the hospital. Recently, after ten years to the month, her family called RMHC Charleston their “Home-away-from-home” again for a few days. “They are always there to hold our hand, lend a shoulder during the scary times, and celebrate the successes.” Our House will continue to be their for Paisley and her family for as long as they need us!
