02 Aug Emmett’s Family Story
Emmett is a 2-year-old with tricuspid atresia stenosis, VSD, ASD, severe heart failure, LVAD, and a transplant. He was diagnosed in November 2021, battling his illnesses at home until being admitted to MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital in August 2023. After almost 8 months, he finally began to stabilize, and they found a heart that was a perfect match in December 2023.
Emmett is now six months post-transplant and is doing amazing! “Living four hours away from the hospital you’ll have to live in until you receive a gift of life is terrifying – having the House saved us in every way possible,” says Cheyanne, Emmett’s Mother. Emmett’s family called RMHC Charleston their ‘Home-away-from-home’ for 163 nights while receiving treatment.
“To all of the donors who help RMHC Charleston, you are the difference in the world. You are the difference between having to leave your family at home while taking care of your sick child or being able to bring them with you when you need them most.”
