Stay With Us

The Ronald McDonald House of Charleston, SC is a "Home Away From
Home" for families of seriously ill children. The house is not a motel - in
fact it is quite different. We provide temporary lodging for families whose
child (18 and under) is undergoing serious medical treatment. Assisting
families of children is our mission and due to a long waiting list and full
capacity, we simply do not have the space to assist families of adult
patients. The families served by our house must live a minimum of 25
miles from the hospital.

Rooms cannot be guaranteed in advance. The Ronald McDonald House of Charleston only has 25 bedrooms. We stay full most of the time so a vacancy depends on hospital discharge, which is highly unpredictable. We recommend that families on our waiting list make alternate arrangements at local hotels as a back up plan in case a room is not available for scheduled procedures. Reservations must be made through hospital guest relations to obtain a discounted medical rate.

Our office is here at the house and is 24 hours, 7 days a week. There is no onsite parking at our house, families park within the MUSC parking system. We have a small loading zone that can be used during check-in and check-out.

Our room fees are $10.00 a night for a regular room and $15.00 a night for an efficiency rooms, which are reserved for transplant patients. Payments can be made during office hours and a payment plan can be arranged with the House Manager if you are unable to make payments during your stay. No family who is unable to pay is turned away from staying at the Ronald McDonald House.

Each bedroom is furnished with two single beds, a small closet with hanging and drawer space, a small refrigerator and a sink/vanity. The House provides sheets and towels, and guests are responsible for washing their linens and cleaning their room before checking out. Bathrooms are shared and it is everyone's responsibility to leave them tidy after each use.

Each room has its own telephone that is capable of making local and collect calls, a calling card must be used for long distance calls. The number for you to give to friends and family at home who may want to reach you is 843-577-4659, they would need to enter your room number to be connected to the phone in your room.

The House has kitchen facilities, a dining area, a living room, laundry facilities, a play area and TV area that are shared by everyone. The kitchen is stocked with dishes, glassware, flatware, pots and pans, and just about anything you might need for cooking. We have a community cupboard with non-perishable food that has been donated for everyone to share. Smoking is strictly prohibited on Ronald McDonald House property. Almost every night, a home cooked hot meal is brought in by generous volunteers for all the families to share. This is a wonderful way to get to know other families going through the same difficult situations as your family.

Children are welcome at the Ronald McDonald House but must be supervised at all times. No one under 18 is allowed to be in the house without a parent or guardian and parent or guardian must also accompany mothers under 18.
